The Truth Stood Downcast In the Lie

The truth stood downcast in the lie
There was no answer as to why
The falsehood was the protection
Honesty could mean rejection

They did what they could to get by
The truth stood downcast in the lie
Lies would cover up all the fear
If there's risk of losing what's dear

Trust was lost in fabrication
For means of self preservation
The truth stood downcast in the lie
Sometimes the rules do not apply

Many ways the truth is hidden
Sometimes what's true is forbidden
There'd always be a reason why
The truth stood downcast in the lie

Tanis, so many aspects of the "truth" are coming out of hiding and challenging us to accept the truth that has been hidden in so many lies. Thank you for sharing this one in the contest.
