The Truth About Love

What is love anymore?
Pain, sadness, hurt
I remember the joy of love
It's beautiful
So why is it short lived?
Broken shards of glass on the floor
A memory of what once was
Whole, full, and full of hope
You think you see everything clearly
But it's not until it's broken
Do you see the imperfections
Mistakes, regrets, screams
Can we ever clean
The mess we made?
You can piece a mirror back together
Just like love
But it will never be the same
You see the flaws bigger than before
The perfection you once saw
Gone
Replaced by an empty submission of acceptance
But can it be better?
Or will it only fail again
Shattered pieces falling down
Numb, cracked, china doll
Grasping for what you once had
But it's not there
The fragile pieces remain
Painful truth hits you
Can't fix what's broken
You may never be fully whole
But who is?

No one is ever fully whole, that is why (pardon the cliche) you find the other to fill the gap, and visa-versa. You show your true colors and feelings in every write, Caleah... never stop. And if it's any comfort remember this: you would never know beauty were it not for those imperfections/flaws... because you would have nothing to compare it too.

I loved your thinking on this Timothy! Very interesting and good points. I always write poetry when I feel something deeply, (I feel like I feel things too much lol) but I think expressing them helps. You're right, nobody is perfect. You can only strive to be the best you can be. Thank you as always for your thoughtful comments. :D

Hi Caleah! I think this is the first poem of yours that I'm reading, and I'm impressed! This is a lovely, reflective poem. Broken dreams and broken love can be fixed, although they can never replace the original. Then it is up to us....either we accept them as they are, or else we get rid of them and move on. // All the best for 2015, irrespective of any flaws. // paul

Thanks for reading my poetry! So glad you like. Love the reflective thoughts. I so agree with you and am happy I conveyed this in my poem. Love is a tricky thing, especially when you may get hurt along the way.
