The Tree

Ever since we first met, I knew you were the one for me.
You were the sunshine on my rainy days,
The light that guided me through the dark.
But then you had to leave for a while.
You told me you would return, and I believed you.
But when you were not back, a seed was planted in my mind.
As time went on, it grew into a sapling, then into a tree.
The tree whispered in my mind, telling me that our love was over,
That you were never coming back.
I tried to block out its sounds,
But there was no stopping the unending torment.
I nearly started to believe the tree's whispers.
But that was when you can back,
With a passion burning brighter than it ever had before.
You came and the tree was burned,
down to only a blacked stump.
And the tree whispered to me no more.
