The Travesty of Trump

I have lived through times of economic depression Seen my country triumph over Japanese aggression, Observed the demise of Russian communism And seen great strides in undoing systemic racism. I recall the first passenger jet flight from coast to coast Of our space exploits and landing on the moon we boast, I remember the first computers, the first cell phones And now, I am seeing widespread usage of flying drones. Medical advancements, MRI, C-Scans, too many to mention Explosions of knowledge in all sciences boggle retention. I remember when one could flag down a greyhound bus Long before Interstate highways were a traveling plus, F.D.R. was president when I was born in December ‘41 Some thought when he was in office, we’d all be done, But we made it through Nixon and Watergate, still alive! Through inflation, deflation, we have managed to thrive, American ingenuity and enterprise get us over the hump Now, if only, we can get through the travesty of Trump!

Now for the next question: Will we survive Biden and Harris? The answer is Yes, because as bad as they are, we, the American people, have shown ourselves to be incredibly resilient. (Just as long as our choice for President in 2024 is NOT Biden or Trump, or Clinton or Trump. I just don't know if we can survive all three of those chumps!). ~ Just sayin'

Well, if I had a hammer, I sure wouldn't use it on you!... I guess I'm a bit surprised that you haven't seen Clinton for what she is yet. (She's a scold. And a lying scold, at that). She's just like Slick Willy, you know. What a pair! Oh, well. Not to worry. ~ Alfred E.

I'm not terribly delighted with Biden, but I can assure you that if we survived Trump, we can survive anything! Of course, I know you disagree with me on this, but we made a big mistake when we did not choose Clinton over Trump! I'd love to sit down with you face to face and debate this. We'd have such fun...if we didn't hammer each other to death! Great admiration for you, my friend!

Surely the anti-Christ would be smarter than this man!

To Trump, my friend, you’re firmly wed Till he quits riding in your head. Forgot about him long ago; Still drives the news when else is slow…

He's like a bad check, Jeff. He keeps coming back, and we must pay an overdraft charge! Drats!

i haven't lived through everything you've mentioned in your poem, milton, but i do agree that trump's presidency was a travesty and the thought of it happening again instills real fear and horror in me...

Me, too, Ilene. Surely the American voters would not do this to our country. Surely not! Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Travesty, indeed! In 2016 I thought he was a laughingstock; now I just think he's a pitiful disgrace. And, for the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would want him to be President again. He never was one in the first place. I remember most of the things you mention in this piece, L M. Some are good memories.

Thanks for your affirmative reponse to my poem, Jim. At my age I doubt that I would live to see this country slide into a dictatorship, but I'm perfectly well aware that that is precisely what Trump would like to do. Anyone who does not see it is simply ignoring the facts.

The GOP report 51% of their members support Trump running for President in 2024, which could only be for one term, except, like Hitler, Trump would never concede a second opportunity to become dictator! Meanwhile, thanks to Trump and SCOTUS, the USA remains the laughingstock of the world! Travesty Act II! Aloha!

Thanks, Rico, for your thoughts. As I understand it, Democrats still are the majority of voters in the United States, and, apparently 49% of Republicans would not support Trump for a second term. The odds are pretty good that he will be defeated if he runs, especially if the Democrats run a good strong candidate. Just who could that be????
