The Train From My First Book, Split Mind

The train

People bustle and rush on board
Me, I am already bored
I scored a window seat
I watch the trees fly by

Feeling sick from last night’s defeat
Which featured more whiskey than meat
Today I am heading back to you
Only, because I have nowhere else to go

My eyes are low as I try and stay focused
The green blur outside is like a wash of paint
By my side, an old man is reading
I wonder what it might be

Trying desperately to take a peek
Though I don’t want him to see
He is reading poetry
I love that

My hat covers my eyes
As I try to reach rest

Knowing now,
The road less travelled
Is the road that is best
