Notes About The Poem

The Toothache

I wish that I had choked and died
On those chocolate candy bars.
I wish my mom had tanned my hide
About those tempting cookie jars.

I wish that I'd been tarred and feathered
For the dinners that I skipped
Because I preferred to gorge my taste
On Lays Potato Chips.

I'd like of course to quite forget
The delightful sweet 'life savers'
Which turned out to be unfortunately
A roll of nice teeth haters.

I wonder why my father
Didn't put a final stop
To the in-and-out of the refrigerator door
For another soda pop.

In truth, I would have received more mercy
From a family of alligators
Than the sticky, gooey caramel
Of flavored 'Now and Laters'.

The bantering I'll put aside
For I must now reflect
On the searing pain that's gripped me
Consuming tooth and jaw and neck.

I do agree the joke's on me
Now would someone please find
The 'painkillers'; the Orajel
Before I lose my mind.

Enjoyed poems 'The Toothache' and 'Wake up and Smell the Tea' With all the crazy political correctness in the USA, the English jokingly call July the 4th 'Thansgiving Day' Blessings, Vivien

Hi Reta, Lol. I can definitely relate to humorous tale. My tooth is bothering now. I'm to go get it pulled in the morning. It's worse than labor pain/contractions. Toothach pain is the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I'm going to the dentist in the morning. True story:-)Alexis

Hi Alexis, Thanks for stopping by to read my poem...I can't think of many things worst than toothache pain...I really can't...good luck at the dentist.

How funny this is Reta. I gave up my teeth many many years ago. I can eat anything I want. Really enjoyed this poem.

Thanks Daniel, I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. I guess what's even funnier is that the pain got so bad in desperation I actually took a pair of pliers to it myself ...I just couldn't wait the next day for the dentist...long story short...pulling on it opened up the abscess...gunk flowed out... I felt better... good enough to write this poem.
