The Time Between Seasons

Spring dresses bare trees with satin leaves of jade green
Sunlight's fingers touch daffodils, coaxing them to bloom
Robins bathe their wings in morning dew as they preen
On the breath of dawn there's a sweet scent of perfume.
Month by month and season to season
Separated only by the hands of time
Nature's pendulum never offers a reason
for turning calendar pages with each chime
Summer arrives, waving her heated scepter while she reigns
Some play on sandy shores before enjoying a swim in the sea.
Crops are nourished with watering cans of afternoon rains
It's the season I enjoy sitting in the shade, drinking iced tea.
Month by month and season to season
Separated only by the hands of time
Nature's pendulum never offers a reason
for turning calendar pages with each chime
Autumn paints bold landscapes crimson, russet and gold
Leaves cascade from their limbs and tumble to the ground
This grieves my heart, but Mother Nature, I cannot scold
for pruning trees each year. To fulfill her duty, she is bound.
Month by month and season to season
Separated only by the hands of time
Nature's pendulum never offers a reason
for turning calendar pages with each chime
Winter sweeps across the land on winds laced with snow.
Time to skate on frozen lakes and enjoy bobsled rides
How beautiful the frigid months that quickly seem to flow
like the progression of seasons that ebb like ocean tides.
Month by month and season to season
Separated only by the hands of time
Nature's pendulum never offers a reason
for turning calendar pages with each chime
Year after year with reverence sublime
