The Thing About a Scarf

The thing about a scarf is that
I know just how to buy one
But I don’t do it often ‘cause
I’m clueless how to tie one.

My friends look chic and classy
With a scarf around their throats.
For hiding saggy skin like mine
That style gets all my votes.

A neck stays warm when breezes blow
If it is scarf-protected
And sometimes boring outfits,
With a scarf, can be corrected.

Yet somehow I have never learned
The skills that are required
To knot a scarf so that my neck’s
A place to be admired.

We’re either born with savoir-faire
And everyone can spot
That stylishness so cool and hip
Or else, like me, we’re not.

I only wear a scarf when I'm wearing my cowboy outfit. (That's another whole sordid story)! Love this poem. The message, the rhyme, 777. A FAV for me!!!

I purchased one only yesterday as I'd forgotten mine and i was cold ... just wrapped it around and wasn't bothered about looking cool and chic. Am sure you can Google to find our how to wear them and you can get accessories to help you create different styles:-) hugs Jan xx

Ilene, this is great! I love this kind of poem, it flows smoothly, good rhymes, tells a great story and is fun. Yep! My kind of poem. Nice one!

A telling and charming revelation that lets us see still more of your warm and human self, Ilene. It is the small details of our lives that animate our works and you make your unpretentious but actually quite accomplished offerings resonate with the clarity and truth of your vision. Keep it up.

I watched a woman for an hour tie scarves in a variety of ways and could not tell you how to tie even one of them ten minutes later. Some have it, some do not. Nicely penned!

I am in the same boat with you. I think I was last one in my class at school to learn how to tie my damn shoes. Took a knitting class and was last to learn that too. Ugggg. GREAT poem. This is a good idea to cover the neck. Maybe I better start buying a bunch. I sure can't afford lower face plastic surgery that I want!

I enjoyed your poem very much, Ilene, love the light touch. I like scarves; I am often cold in winter and usually wear one. There must be tutorials online how to tie one, if you feel you're seriously scar-challenged :)
