The Terror of Treaties

Our oppressors have pretended to surrender power,
Yet, beneath the white mask of their false alliance,
They bind our peoples to their dominion,
And doom our lands to the tears of a black winter.
Through secret pacts they devour all our gold,
Installing crowned lackeys to remain in place,
While, beneath the yoke, our people weep,
And watch our vast and precious treasure flee into exile.
It is a theft without cannon, a silent crime,
That casts humanity’s cradle into an anxious cold,
To steal from children their noble destiny.
But Africa’s voice, deep within remembrance,
Proudly rejects the chain in its disguise,
And raises the free man toward his future.

Rise up and show them their errors.

Auguste, I how you captured the “white mask” as a symbol of false peace, gave the whole poem this powerful vibe of hidden struggles and hope. Loved that!
