Notes About The Poem

The Tempo of Life

The Tempo of Life

Like metronome just pacing time,
      the years click slowly by;
   adagietto overtime,
         the melody’s sad cry.

A once allegro symphony
      so bold and full of joy,
   my life was lush and so carefree,
         a moment to enjoy.

But now the times are not so quick,
      the tempo slowing down;
   I hear the metronome’s dull click;
         this song has shed its crown.

I long for tempo primo now;
      I miss those carefree days;
   my symphony must not allow
         these melancholy ways.

Life goes by in the blink of an eye - the tempo of life continues but we slow down as we mature - ...I long for tempo primo now; I miss those carefree days .... but sadly in reality ' Like metronome just pacing time, the years click slowly by. But we should enjoy what we have left ''my symphony must not allow, these melancholy ways' - a wonderful poem, but a sad fact of life. Well penned John and best of luck! Hugs, Jennifer.

Thank you so much for your thoughts, Jenn. Yes, aging is a sad fact of life but I always remind myself that it's better than the alternative. All the best to you my friend. Hugs, John

Life moves quickly for all, yet how we move, expresses so much about ourselves. Light and Carefree may only be in the steps we take, but- it is also within. "Young at Heart" I REALLY like this saying, as it does hold so much truth. Age is only a number. Yes!! Keep smiling my dear friend. Stay Light and Carefree. :) Brandy

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, B, your words are true. Sometimes the people around us truly make us feel “young at heart.” You will know this is true when you get older my dear friend. All my best. Hugs, John
