The Tears of No Contrition, No Regret

It is to take a second look
at that which might have been...
and know it is an art of false pretense,
that never will resolve the tragedy
of loss, where fault is never owned,
grief is ever there, and joy
is emptied, dried and blown away.

There is no secret substitute,
no consolation waiting in the wings
and it is fruitless to explain.
Here the vast, majestic arches
of the heavens stand in silence;
their muted testimony firm and resolute.
Some will brace themselves; this is
enabling truth and must be faced.

For me, most certainly.
Perhaps for you?
