The Swords Speak

Back in the eighteenth century, the swords of the Polish Legion Supporting Lombardy were inscribed with an Italian phrase, translated as Free people are brothers  We defend ourselves righteously. And thus, free people are brothers. Whether we fight on land or sea, We defend ourselves righteously. God, therefore, our support will be From the tyranny of others. We defend ourselves righteously. And thus, free people are brothers. Jan. 31, 2017 for the Contest of Julia Ward

Well done! This is one contest I did get to post for. I enjoyed your triolet, it's contents are right on and the form serves each point well. This should soar! Hugs ... CayCay

It is a shame people must take up arms to fight for freedom. Look at how many wars Americans have fought - not just the Revolution or the Civil War. Still, I admire the camaraderie of the soldiers in your beautifully written poem. (My mother's family was Polish, so I appreciated the historical note at the top too. Best wishes in the contest, Andrea. I couldn't come up with anything. You nailed it!

This poem reminds me of how the 18th century people would have written. I love this.
