The Sun Never Shines
It shines not sun in Palestine
Held in pregnant grey clouds so high
That hang so low in the sky so high.
Burning hot deep within
With secret sunny meaning
While the sky refusing to part
Open dark cloudy thighs at dawn
And let spill down newborn
Rainy seeds of fertile growth
'pon which shines a new sun
Before down it goes at dusk.
Celebrating our sun with an elegy
Palestine still sing a happy dirge
One that needs a hoarse voice:
An epic for the big bright sun
That a warm ray never shone
Closer home and far abroad.
* Motivated by the almost forgotten Israeli-Palestine conflict.
