The Struggle is Real


I’ve seen him struggle
Through the nausea and pain,
A warrior’s prayer on his lips
A gentle grace in his tears
A lingering hope, faith so clear

I’ve seen him struggle
Through the worries, the fears
A message so tender, his light
Falling over the spirit,
Memories blended with despair

I’ve seen him struggle
Cancer writing its shadows
In silhouettes of doubt
Silent notes of a war, a battle
Between good and evil

I’ve seen him struggle
While I withstood the grief
Of knowing this diagnosis
This burden of despair
Strength seeps from my heart

I’ve seen him struggle
Has it been only one year?
His faith is strong still
Yet I know he must feel
So alone in this malady

I’ve seen him struggle
Tears, though they won’t seep
From this heart who mourns
The moments we’ve lost
Amid cancer’s quiet curse

I’ve seen him struggle
And I know he will heal
time will reach out to us
with a promise of recovery
restoration, a cure for what has been…

the darkest dread, the sin
This is the obscurity of a curse,
A war has begun and, with the Son
We’ll find the answers, the love
Between two hearts, who believe

Two who will make it through
This pain, this disease
That seeks to destroy, to end
The light that survives
Despite cancer’s quiet screams

Cancer, I believe
Is the reason that I seek
The solace of this prayer
Praying for you to be
Cured from this disease.

I pray, I seek
I believe… Jesus will agree
With you and me
Jesus will settle this war
Between cancer and your soul

Because, when all is said and done
We have the only One
Who can take away the dread
Encourage our hearts to seek
And find solace despite the grief
