The Streams and Lakes Have Ebbed Away
The winds are angry
It does not rain no more
The soils are drying
Thirsty for a drop
Streams don’t make it to the lakes
Streambeds reduced to dry dusty trenches
They lose their names as they lose their tide
We once plunge ourselves into them
Now we walk across without a splash
Lakes have turned into mud ponds
As the earth sucks the little water it receives
They say it’s warmer than it needs to be
Some say we’ve cut the trees and exposed the sand
So much of life is taken away
As streams and lakes ebb away
