The Soul Within
And suddenly, at last,
you take a single step into the void.
Your deepest fears
take hold of your motionless body,
bare before the vastness,
with no shelter,
nowhere left to hide.
And then you understand
that everything had a purpose.
That cicada inside your head,
the one that never stopped singing,
had finally achieved its purpose:
to pull you from the comfort of your refuge,
to tear you away from familiar walls
and show you places far beyond them.
You stopped staring
at the tip of your own nose
and finally lifted your eyes
to behold the whole landscape.
And perhaps,
that was what growing meant:
discovering that the void
does not always come to swallow you.
Sometimes,
it comes only to show you
how vast the world had always been
while you were still
looking down.
