The Soul of a Child

the soul
of the child
is forever scarred
with hurts
from years ago.
The soul
of this child
knows not what
inner peace
feels like.
The soul
of a hurt child
wants the love
of a mother
who is only
a dream
in her heart.
The soul
of any child
deserves nothing less
than a lifetime
of hugs.
The soul
of the child
I once was
would rather
close her eyes
forever
than continue
waiting for
someone to be
my mother.
