The Son
The woman is glad for the visitor with his tidy beard and dark curls,
his clothes smell of the money he earns from the foreigners,
see how he sits so upright and successful, proud holding his strong coffee,
his conversation is rehearsed, talking of small insignificant things.
Too soon he stands to leave, she admires his straightness,
he adjusts his attire and in vanity he notes his reflection in her old mirror,
pleased with his image her offers her a final polite goodbye,
and leaves without any offer to walk with her into the world outside.
