The Snake

What we find lacking in the snake in smarts,
is not made up for in body parts.
What has he that we can commend?
He doesn't even make a good friend.
All God's creatures under the sun
are good for something, except for one.

I agree...I have absolutely no fondness for snakes...when we lived in El Paso, we were plagued with rattle snakes one summer...baby ones too.....hubby smasked them with the shovel!

They're a little fascinating and a little frightening to me, the way they move.

Their venom is stored in their glands which are sheathed. Do you know " Vasuki Naag" (naag means snake) is the king of all the serpents. It is a divine serpent in Hinduism, mentioned in our ancient scriptures. It did exist as, it's fossil was discovered in India some years back. Huge serpent and it adores Lord Shiva's neck. So, when we worship Lord Shiva ,we are worshipping this divine serpent as well.

Hi Vandana, I just wrote another, incredibly silly poem called "The Snake, Revisited". I'll post it tomorrow, because I've already posted 5 today, and I don't think you're supposed to go over the daily limit. This new poem puts snakes in a more positive light!

Hmmm, well the antidote of snake venom indirectly comes for the snakes only!!

That's pretty interesting...I knew there was something good about them, but I couldn't think of any at first, so I came up with my last two lines. I wonder if they have their own antidote to the venom, so that they can carry the venom inside their bodies without killing themselves?
