The Skeptic Asks For Proof

The skeptic says, prove it and I'll believe, prove God is real and I'll believe--but, I answer, how can I prove the reality of a Being that is beyond the lines of space and time, life and death: eternal.... How can I even grasp the idea of God, when I can think one thought at a time, speak with one voice at a time, hope and love with but a single heart--how can I see God with the eyes of men? How can I prove my love for God, His love for me, even for the skeptic?

As you say: ‘How can I even grasp the idea of God’ - although some essay to define nature, character, demeanour, gender! And even name! So it is not surprising that skeptics question THAT. For myself I think that there must be an ultimate reality that encompasses all others, but don’t know if that is a being with its own self awareness - whom we might address as ‘THOU’. Perhaps we shall only know when WE KNOW (not by being told) As always, Len, you raise an interesting point. Blessings.

You make a good point too, my friend. I suspect--and hope-- that God is a person, and that we may indeed be made in His image--the best parts at least. I learned 1/2 a century ago that my soul exists forever as a personality, so why not the Great Soul as well? After all, we can only truly long for another being...

Idea: Show him a newborn baby. A rose. A willow tree. Those three things surely will be enough, right L.J.? If they are not, nothing would be.

I expect you're right. I have tried to reason with atheists who say just believing something doesn't make it true by countering with the logic that not believing something does not make it untrue-- but they never get it.
