The Show
Words and images burn and blurr,
in and out of focus
with tints of red to stain the edges.
Inside something or someone screams
is still screaming,
angry soulless banshee as
the heartbeat quickens
unused, built up adrenaline.
Revenge burns the image in the mind,
breath comes short,
teeth grind together, pressure
pressure
it builds
and builds
and builds
and builds
until outside the body must retaliate
must relieve it.
Silver slices
quick and white
until it to tints and stains
into a dripping red,
hot like the anger
a slow bleed out process.
Built up tension,
built up anger,
built up so much inside
until now, it slowly trickles away
unsaid
and
unheard
and inside we collapse against the cage of our mind.
Cages built to keep it in
and she is left to slip between the bars,
must keep the show going
get up,
clean up the blood,
push back down the wrist guard,
and roll down the sleeve.
Rough fabric, sensitive skin
and I will be left waiting in this cage,
all secrets safe
the show will go on
of the two person masquerade.
