The Sheriff of Nottingham
The Sheriff, not a pleasant sort
Was learning of a bad report
About a soul, Who stood defiant
And swore an oath, to topple tyrants
Who once was noble, but now has strayed
Hell bend upon his rebels ways
In Royal Forest, made a stand
Against the laws of Nottingham
The Sheriff Stood, filled with rage
Summoning a timid Page
Then handed him a scroll to bare
To hang it in the public square
Now on this scroll, for all to see
Nailed upon the hanging tree
A reward for those who could and would
Give up this man called "Robin Hood"
While the Sheriff still quite livid
To his court he made it vivid
The punishment for those fail
To bring "The Prince of Thieves" to jail
Not a Knight, dared to loom
But all at once vacate the room
Armed with shield, sword and mace
They rode like they were being chased
To be continued.................
The Sheriff sent his noble Knights
Sure, they would snuff out this blight
And scatter wide this torrid bunch
In time for him to sit for lunch
But the outlaw had his plans
To hide in secret every man
On the grown and in the trees
There covered with a million leaves
There they made no sound at all
When Sheriff's men had come to call
They searched all day and at great cost
But all they found, was they were lost
With empty hands and shaken spirit
Knowing their Lord, won't want to hear it
Chose to run, they found the road
That took them straight to Edwinstowe
Friar Tuck, he came out first
Said, "All this hiding builds my thirst"
Little John said laughing so
"We won the day without a blow"
Robin smiled, but he knew
That the Sheriff wasn't through
And with such anger, he would send
Crueler and much braver men
to be continued..................
The Sheriff was beside himself
And grabbed a scroll straight off the shelf
There on the table, it was spread
And this is what the Sheriff read
"It's Nottingham the Prince shall come
To see the Shire and how it's run
And to speak to Nobles secret things
To raise a ransom fit for a King "
It wasn't long before the day
That young Prince John was on his way
Traveling the forest road
Not knowing of this " Robyn Hode"
When from the brush, trees, and ground
Did all of Robin's men abound
And challenged each and every man
To drop his sword and make his stand
The evil Prince, seemed not surprised
But raised his hand and rolled his eyes
And stayed his men, to sheath their swords
Then yawned a bit and acted bored
"Who's the leader of these men"
Prince John spoke with toothy grin
A man from a limb, jumped to the ground
While forest filled with laughing sound
"Good day my Lord" said Robin Hode
"You must forgive my manner bold,
But those whom wish a Forest stroll
We must extract a modest toll"
The Captain on his horse came forth
His hand now gripped his sword of course
To rob a Prince, this was far fetched
Then heard the creaking bows now stretched
The Captain counting arrow tips
Left his sword upon his hip
The Prince now stood in open coach
Not taking lightly this reproach
Prince John now spoke with deep distain
To Robin Hood, this royal pain
"Are you the leader of this band
And do you know just who I Am"
"Indeed I do Oh Nobel Sod,
And now please fill my masons hod
With the gold, I surely reason,
Was meant to pay for acts of treason"
The Prince turned red and fill with rage
Once again called for his page
And motioned him to lay all down
The gold there on the naked ground
So the Page unpacked the ass
And spilled the coins upon the grass
"Now your swords I'd like to see
On this lawn in front of me"
The Prince and men now both disarmed
When Robin said,"Go, pass unharmed "
So they rode on through the wood
And cursed the man named Robin Hood.
