Notes About The Poem

A pattern poem, based on the 23rd Psalm.

The Shepherd's Cross

Darkness falls The world fades My shepherd calls Where light awaits His voice is near I will not fear He’ll take me back to pastures green, within His Grace I shall not lack for I have seen His splendid Face Though evil roars It can’t devour His life He gave To keep me safe His might endures My hope’s secure So here I stand In Promised Land Where I belong With my arms raised I sing a song To give Him praise

Thank you Anaya. I discovered shape poetry through George Herbert, who also wrote a lot of Biblical and pastoral poems. This is, in a sense, a tribute to one of my favourite poets of all times.
