The Shedding

beneath black boughs
leaves dyed tan and orange
stir a little fear

I'm thinking the little fear is in the leaves as they wait their turn to fly, play and return to earth. But then, you have a subtle duality for the viewer/reader in metaphor. Stirring. J :)

That's a great juxtaposition to heighten both elements.

Thanks, Jeanette, for your insightful feedback. In the Caribbean, technically, we don't experience fall/autumn. One of my students' art pieces recently caught my eye. There was a man under a black tree with tan leaves, and a swing to play on. The contrast between the tan and the darkness around it was striking to me - a sense of fear on one hand, but then playfulness/curiosity on the other hand.
