On retirement old Doc did belong
But he stayed at the job too long
Although his students it did amuse
When ionic and covalent he’d confuse
Carbon in organics is never found
To them had a very strange sound
The dean didn’t know what to say
But the problem resolved one day
Doc took a drink and was no more
What he thought H20 was H2SO4
