The Selfish Egos of War

The selfish egos of war
comes not from birth, rather chaos
and the turmoils of life
These corruptors of history are us!
And warrants our demise
While we dig graves to bury our dead
We turn, wearing our disguise of greed and deceit
Their blood washes through our hands
It drips from our veins and crawls like a vine
Armies parade, bring out the band
So we can bow our heads for the loss of life
and celebrate the marble stones all in a row
We, the people, are the selfish egos of war

I agee with what Susan said. The tone is appropriate. Those who engage in war (I believe) are narcissistic, power mongers and have no regard for the human collateral damage. Best wishes with this contest entry.

Frederic, dear poet, dear friend, indeed, the selfish egos of war are made, created by society, greed and deceit. I adore the scathing tone of your poem that places the blame for, and selfishness of, war where it belongs, on the people that wage it. Your imagery is deeply moving "Their blood washes through our hands It drips from our veins and crawls like a vine" and mocking " Armies parade, bring out the band".. telling it like it is, my poet friend! A very worthy entry for Craig's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
