The Secret Storm
I forced a beaming smile and wished you well,
but mirrors of the soul did not convey
a corresponding look of happiness
for both of you upon your wedding day.
I’d loved you for so long but I for you
was just a best friend’s sister, nothing more.
You never once considered I could be
that person you could cherish and adore.
And when you introduced her at our home
your tender words stung like a poisoned dart.
Confetti kisses fuel and incite
the secret storm which rages in my heart.
