The Scream -Tanka

          dusk bleeds into flame
                   as molten threnody throbs
          shadows into ash
                     echoes wail in grey abyss
            silence swallows shrouded scream

Wow. Great way of seeing that famous picture. Was this for a contest if Brian's. I think he likes poems about paintings

Hi Andie, yes I noticed that Brian appreciates poems inspired by art appreciation. In 2021 I did a series of simple ekphrasis from Van Gogh and Monet's paintings and they all got placements.

Very well done, JCB. You captured the essence of the picture perfectly. I remember first seeing this World famous picture many, many years ago...it is still as horrific now as when I first clapped eyes on it. Munch really did paint a complete nightmare. Incidentally, thanks for the word "threnody". I had never, until now, come across this word before...it is, without fear of contradiction, perfectly suited here. Excellent Tanka!
