The Scar

—A Cosmography of Wound— How deep the scar, where starry measures cease, And sable gulfs unhouse their hoarded fire; Where suns attenuate, bereft of peace, And bleed through night the embers of desire; Each constellation sheds its given name, And argent heavens fracture into me; The Milky Way unthreads its vestal flame, Till blood becomes its dark infinity. Then bends the Sun, drawn inward through my scar, Its aureate empire yielding to the night; Whilst Time lets fall its centuries afar, And deathless darkness drinks the last of light. Yet one red pulse persists beneath the scar: I am the wound by which they learn how far.

A magnificent cosmic sonnet, Mohit. The vast celestial imagery makes the wound feel both intensely personal and immeasurable, while the language—“sable gulfs,” “argent heavens,” and “aureate empire”—is beautifully sonorous. The closing couplet leaves a chilling, unforgettable sense of endurance and scale.❤️

Alison, thank you sincerely for reading the sonnet so attentively and for receiving its cosmic imagery in the spirit in which it was written. Your words about the wound becoming both personal and immeasurable, and especially your recognition of the closing couplet, mean a great deal to me. ❤️ It is deeply encouraging when a reader not only reads the poem, but enters its inner cosmography and hears what lies beneath its language. Thank you for such a generous and perceptive reading. Stay blest evermore dear Alison!✨🌸

Mohit, this poem is beautifully written, with evocative imagery and a strong grasp of language. It explores deep themes of cosmic wounds and existential transformation, using vivid metaphors that draw the reader into a dynamic interplay between light and darkness. However, for some readers, its complexity may require multiple readings to fully appreciate the depth and nuance.

Esteemed Sir Poet, Thy gracious laying of thine eyes upon mine poor verses hath rendered them an ethereal life beyond their solitary making. 🌹 I am especially grateful for thy discerning observation that some readers may need to return to the sonnet more than once to apprehend its deeper core. I take that not as difficulty, but as a generous recognition of the poem’s layered architecture, where image, metaphor, and meaning are meant to disclose themselves by degrees. That thou didst perceive this beneath the surface of its cosmic wound honours the work profoundly. Thy reading hath given the poem another breath—and for that, good Sir, I thank thee most sincerely. ❤️🕊️🌸
