The Same Reflection
The Same Reflection
Think of yourself
Pick up the mirror of your soul
Look into yourself
All the things you know
All the rights and wrongs
And the choices you have made
And the choices you have shunned
The truth and the deceit
With the love and hate
Your freedom and your slavery
Cowardice and your bravery
Can you see in your eyes
That same reflection
Can you see in your eyes
Looking back at you
Can you see in your eyes
Looking back at me
See them there
Humanity
Consider yourself
Ponder on the reflections of your soul
Look into your self
All the things you have learned
And all the dreams for which you have yearned
Such a sainted bestial, intellectual animal
Always fearful and forever hopeful
Held between emotion and the logical
Your spiritual devotion and the material
An individual
Both hidden and revealed
As you confront the world
See your reflection
In that same reflection
Your eyes
Looking back at them
Can you see in your eyes
Looking back at me
All of us there
Humanity
To your sex and desire
The need and wanting things
Possessor and possessed
Possessive constantly
In all of this your compassion and your liberty
But not how you want to be
For the innocence in you
And the guilty
Awareness to be true
And choices made so ignorantly
Between the balance in the light between the darkness
Between Heaven on Earth
And an Earthly Hades
A somebody
Both shrouded and unveiled
As you avoid the world
In that same reflection
You are looking back at them
See in your eyes
They are looking back at you
Can you see them
Can you see in these eyes
Looking back at me
All of us there
Humanity
