Notes About The Poem

This poem was published in 1984 in The American Muse: A Treasury of Lyric Poetry under my maiden name Julia A. Durre.

The Rose

It began so simply, a long time ago,
As a seed in the ground it began to grow.
It popped through the soil to show it was there,
What it needed now was love, attention and care.
It developed a stem and began to rise high,
Reaching, stretching, and aiming for the sky.
The rose, it bloomed for everyone to see,
Its beauty, God’s creativity.
