The Rope

one day
we will wake up
and things
will never
be the same

nothing changes
and everything
stays the same
when we are
wrapped up
and twisted
inside
life's game

we fuss
and we fight
and want things
to be right
but when
it all
comes down

we are still
lost
and nothing is
found

we think we can cope
at the end of our
ropes
but the length
is never
enough

and life remains
tough
but we keep on
because there
is nothing left
to hold onto
