Notes About The Poem

The Rocking Chair

The Rocking Chair

Some years ago, I bought a rocking chair-
for first grandchild- now twenty-nine years old.
So many hours I rocked him, not aware
someday, in this same chair, that I might hold
his baby daughter, whose birth soon will be!
I'll rock her in my arms, as long ago,
I held her dad- my grandson, with deep love.
Such joy- with his sweet babe- a new plateau
of life will grace our lives. Dear God above
has blessed me- soon, a great-grandchild I'll see.

How wonderful Sandra! Congratulations on your wonderful winning poem and also on your new great grandchild. I hope I live long enough to see a great grandchild be born. My children got a late start and my grandchildren are young nine and seven. : ) xxoo

Hi Sandra: I am at that age now now that beckons recall of my grandchildren when they were tiny and I'm glad to still be alive to enjoy them all. A beautiful poem in reverie!
