The Road To the Beach
The road to the beach began with the highway
To an exit with a number on a map
That seemed to go on and on
Grey concrete with a faded yellow line
Through a small town dotted with shops
And eateries that beckon you to stop
Tantalizing scents drifting in and out
Now fading as the salt air defeats it
Down a narrow road with no curbs
Amorphous traces of sand confirm what is near
Briny breezes now engulfing
To a clearing that seamlessly appears
Sun bleached clapboard houses rise up
Inviting porches smile as you pass
The ocean wraps its vastness around you
And whispers, welcome back old friend
