The Road Lily Has Traveled
In a different time and space she would be sought after
A force to be thus reckoned with,an object not of laughter
Lily knew that she was cut from an unusual cloth
In the melting pot of life she was a distinctive broth
Sometimes she felt brave and sure and stood up ten feet tall
Traversed the world in high-heeled boots, struggling not to fall
Far above her memories, casting aside the doubt
In these times she knew her worth, although she lived without
She longed for guilt-free passion, love, and sunshine of desire
But safety was a must and so she never fed the fire
Yet,she would often tumble deep into that black abyss
Never was she shown the way or comforted for this
Things had happened to Lily that she whispered to the trees
All her life she took the pain and did her best to please
Moments of sheer terror had become her formative years
A crown of fear she wore until she'd just collapse in tears
Some day she would find herself in a victorious dance
Invite peace into her heart and take a daring chance
Her spirit would soak up the joy and find that ecstasy
A special man would find her and his love would set her free
The road Lily has traveled has served to make her strong
She took life's circumstances and she wove them into song
Learning to use her courage is the thing that makes her tall
Now she knows she's really not so different after all
