The Road I Leave Behind
A long slab of gravel paved with regret
Mile markers on each side
Broken dreams merged with infinite possibilities
On the road I leave behind
Stranded in the driveway
I look in the rear view mirror to find
Infinite entities in an alternate reality
It’s the beginning of the road I leave behind
Through a shadowing abyss
I will emerge from the pits that hide
All the remorse deep down is what I regret now
There, on the road I leave behind
I believed we were invincible
Now there’s broken bridges we can’t mend
How could we be so susceptible?
I never imagined this road would end
With every step towards the door
I long for something much more
Than crimson tides that take me on a ride
Down…the road I leave behind
I hear the freedom calling my name
I don’t know if I can resist it this time
There’s a definite chance that I might dance
In the middle…of the road I leave behind
Ever thud I hear echoing on the pavement
Of the broke down highway of my life
I feel so empty looking ahead at eternity
Lining the sides…of the road I leave behind
There are two sides of a coin and two sides of me
I finally learn to walk down a straighter line
I find the other me across an alternate reality
On each side…of the road I leave behind
It’s something so undeniable
I’ve got so much to loose
I find it so unconceivable
Now that I have to choose
What would I be if a stay
But how can I walk away
Will we still be friends when our family ends?
A fire burns high…down the road I leave behind
Tears and dust from broken dreams and rust
Bitter traces of a man who can’t bend
Now that I’ve come to the end
Busted flat and broke down…on the road I leave behind
I can’t live with…
I can’t go back down…
Better walk away from the road I might leave behind
