The Return

Inspired by an ancient poem IV

The journey back is far and vast
ominous with memories of old terrain.
Along the singing cattails I pass,
   listening to their sad refrain.
The distant shore beckons
until the enticing land is clear.
But the sighting threatens.
Knowing he is no longer there,
   my sorrows remain.
