The Restful Sleep

The haunting demons have left my side, And the darkness is descending over me Driving our my hopes and dreams. In their place, the knowing darkness gives me peace. The coldness follows and prepares to drive away the caustic pains of life. My eyes wait for the abiding sleep, for they have been deceived too many times by life's refulgent light. I feel the spark of life depart, while in its place, the waiting worms begin to wake, and hearing nothing from the heart, these little maggots begin to feed.

oh my Carlos, after seeing your comment on my unanswered question, I came here and kind of expected this kind of poem. The last part is very well conveyed (and I like dark poetry). Yes, it's true we die alone, but maybe we can also be open to the possibility that loved ones wait for us on the other side!! Or who knows? Maybe we are reborn into a different zodiac to learn new life lessons!! So many theories, and I'm hanging my hopes on the best of them.
