The Reluctant Dreamer

Don't want to close my eyes
Don't want to travel the misty skies
I know that as soon as I do
His face will be there again
And I'll see the light of his eyes
Coming through the misty skies.

I'll see his smile and I'm mesmerized,
My heart seized by a knot so tight
And when I wake, the ache remains
Though he abides not by my side
And I have to battle my way
Out of misty skies to brighten up my day.

Don't want to close my eyes
Don't want to travel the misty skies.

The powerful feelings of loss are conveyed so eloquently in your poem, Caroline. I hope one day you no longer have to "travel the misty skies." Have you ever heard the song "Don't Want to Miss a Thing"? Your lovely poem reminds me of that moving song so much. Love, Carolyn
