The Rebel

When stories are told and retold, often for centuries, they can become accepted as facts.

We pass down stories and myths as if they are real events that happened.

Heaven, God, angels and demons are shaped in our minds and written down in books.

Who dares to question them?

Those who do are seen as wrong, villains, rebels! They are even called the voice of the Devil!

Even if they are punished, killed or burned alive in the name of something they call ‘merciful’, it is still considered good!

Miracles that were just tricks become spiritual powers, and those who believe in them are treated as heroes!

Let us look at this closely!

No one is more powerful than the next person we meet! No hymns ever reach the ears of some spiritual power sitting in some made-up clouds of splendour called heaven!

These are lies! Just like the lies about the earth being flat or being the centre of the universe!

Just like God creating man first and the woman from him!

Or the universe being created in seven days!

Or a large ship saving life forms from a deluge!

No angel ever spoke to anyone!

No one walked on water! No one came back from the dead!

That is the truth!

It takes courage to question the nonsense that has been spread in the name of God and religion!

Millions have died because of such lies!

Millions are still dying because of these lies!

Human morality was not born through religion, nor did religion civilise humanity.

The truth! It hurts! But the truth!

Being a good, caring person is more precious than all the sermons, hymns and prayers!

Lighting someone’s hope is better than lighting a candle! Building a shelter for the needy is better than all the temples you can build!

It is time we stopped nearly two millennia of terrible lies to scare, corrupt and control humanity!

Let us learn to face the harsh reality of life, and not hide behind made-up stories and myths!

Just being human is divine enough!

Caring for others is prayer enough!

Love is a miracle in itself!

A good heart is God enough!

A powerful, uncompromising free-verse manifesto. Its direct, plainspoken lines build an urgent moral argument, while the repeated invocations of “truth,” courage, care and love give the piece a strong rhetorical pulse. The closing sequence is especially resonant: it replaces grand religious spectacle with the quiet divinity of compassion, shelter, hope, and a good heart.
