The Rainbow

THE RAINBOW

 Into the room
 a shock of colour,
 a curving arc,
 startling the senses.

 Eyes leaping to its source:
 a glass of water
 brimming with refracted light,
 sweeping in a vivid curve.

 With gratitude
 to sit amongst its warmth,
 illuminated in its flood,
 its hearth.

 Watching
 as the sun streaks leap
 across the walls.
 Renewal of hope,
 benediction of light.

 This transient gift,
this symbol of nature's intricate craft,
 this living kaleidoscope of joy

 shines on.
