The Race In the Dark
Why does my mind race
as I try to get some sleep?
What will I make for supper,
And will I be late for a class?
How are my children doing?
It's all coming at me so fast.
Why does my back hurt,
And will my dress still fit?
I wonder how my friend is?
Is my poem going to be a hit?
How do I turn off this light
As I lay here in the dark?
Hoping to rest my mind
And put out that growing spark.
Why does my mind race
as I try to get some sleep?
