The Question
That you are here—that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.
~Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass, 1892
What verse might I contribute to the powerful play that goes on?
Let it be a verse not to long, not to wordy.
A verse filled not with anger or strife.
Let it be a verse filled with love and laughter,
So at the end those who knew will say, "Well done!"
NOTE: This poem was inspired in 2014 by, of all things, a TV ad that quotes Walt Whitman.
