Notes About The Poem

The Puppeteer

BACKGROUND. It took over a month to receive a response from the local council. I had written to state that i had paid my rates under duress due to certain situations occurring on or near our house and in the town itself. I wanted to respond for a couple of weeks how i felt about the attitude of the council. Letters kept forming in my head but nothing really emanated that felt suitable. Poetry to the rescue. Issues include paying for a waste management service I use six times a year, excess street water run off over our land extensive use of toxic herbicides and locking up a public toilet Here is my reply.

Your response to my letter almost every issue
you have failed to address
Here now are some verses,
 within my feelings I confess

Charge full price for a service rarely used
seems to me this policy reeks of theft
Environmental principals non existent
this organisation is bereft

Not one puppet shows an interest
to check out excessive water flow
They only jump when their strings are pulled
by the Puppeteer who runs the puppet show

"You live in a natural gully"
written by the man who pulls the puppet strings
Forty five "natural" roof tops "natural' concrete driveways, three "natural"sealed roads
Preventing natural soakage increasing unnatural flow
Please don't bother us our focus is on more important things

Like holding out our hands to collect a massive pay
We turn our heads ignore what constituents have to say

We pretend to listen put a smile upon your face
But when your back is turned we decide you don't have a legitimate case

You see we are are a business model that's our major focus
in truth we are highway men disguised by an ABN
Our aim rob ratepayers do our best to keep them poor
If you don't fit this business paradigm please don't call again

Lock up a public dunny
before another one is built
Common sense! What's that these puppets say
This reeks of incompetence excessive to the hilt

No water birds anymore seen around the lakes
me thinks this coincides with the use of toxic sprays
If this mob of so called community leaders all resigned
I would shout from forty"natural rooftops ten hip hip hoorays

So thank you for the stimulus to write another poem
no need to respond no further generic letters do I wish to receive
These robotic AI answers stored in a hideaway
probably stuck up high inside the string pullers sleeve

Or maybe it should read: you are the unwashed plebs
we along with the Puppeteer are the upper class
The String Puller? Pulling's his speciality
maybe he pulls strings of AI generated letters from his ass

In the meantime
we're gonna keep on spraying toxic crap
We're happy polluting mother earth
So please just shut your trap

Councils are a farce done here in Australia. Puppeteers all the way up the string of command. The destruction of this beautiful land breaks my heart. Thank you. Hope you gave the council a -very rating. Alison
