“The Promise that Remains”
It doesn’t matter that we have yet to met,
I know that you and I have something special
There’s a promise that will always remain,
You have my word to be there for you.
Always.
You keep from my dark past
With the kindest words I’ve ever heard
No matter what, our promise remains.
Even though, I don’t understand how you
Can so willingly put trust in God.
Thank you for treating me no
Different than those who do.
With every question, you always
Have an understandable answer.
I thank God that we somehow
Met. Without you, I’d be crazy.
Miles separate our bodies
But we always understand each
Other. When you write of heartbreak
And pain, your words ring true.
Whenever you need someone to
Talk to about issues you face or
Someone to just joke around with,
I will always listen.
This is a written promise to you
That can’t be broken by anyone.
As years go by and lives change,
This promise will remain.
It’s been a year but this feels
Like forever. Within this short amount
Of time, our friendship has blossomed.
And, my promise still remains.
