The Promise
You said if you were first to go
you’d visit in my dreams,
you’d walk towards me in the wind
whispering love into my heart.
You said you’d wake at morning light
and greet me with a kiss,
and in the evening keep me safe,
watch over as I slept.
After your painful departure,
I've yet to see you in my dreams,
yet to hear a loving whisper;
still I wait for your gentle kiss.
Each night, despair rises in me,
leaves tear-furrows on my cheeks
for the love that once was ours,
that's gone for all the years.
