The Prodigal
You dwell in the shadow
of the prodigal.
You did before he left,
too, when he was away.
Now, he has returned
to joyous rapture.
Huzzah, huzzah;
you shrink a little further.
Though eagerly welcomed home
not all return reborn in penitence.
Some,
after taking in the seven sins,
come back;
to hide among their brothers;
stealing needed love;
because they can.
You know that he sins still;
yet cannot utter to a soul.
This cuckoo.
Not to break your father's heart;
best yours is torn;
again.
You dwell in the shadow
of the prodigal.
