The Price of Blood For a New Nigeria
THE PRICE OF BLOOD FOR A NEW NIGERIA
Fist outstretched towards the sky,
Flags lifted high to reveal my course.
Ask your mothers why your fathers died,
why their sisters and brothers levelled on the streets;
They'll recount how the street lights in Lekki Toll Gate,
how the hearts of Lagos was blacked-out,
how the CCTV cameras were "blindfolded",
disconnected from every truth's eye,
how your harmless citizens were pursued with guns
before curfew and before mama called.
Millions of freedom fighters fought for free,
Fought frightenly & fervently for you,
not with guns, machetes, knives or spear
But with one voice, banners & fist lifted high.
Know that my hands - too small for the task,
But together, our hands pulled up a sinking nation,
Blood bathed us, many left too soon,
both the ghetto-born and silver-spoon.
Remember your fathers lives
bought back your nation from ruin;
Though costly price to pay, but worth every lumpsome.
Maintain the peace that comes after the wreck,
Don't ever forget 20th October 2020!
Always remember blood was the ransom for your country.
Your fathers and mothers were tireless fools
because it's a foolish thing to sacrifice one's life for their children
which is the greatest kind of sacrifice -
John 3:16 (This is the greatest love ever liveth).
Peace is just a touching distance, my child;
A New Nigeria awaits your embrace.
