The Price

Yes, I danced with the devil
And I never got away, there is no escape
I played the game, although I believed it just
But there was a price, now it’s over
Exacted from me, stripped from my heart
Now its paid

I have earned this ending I have nothing to say
I paid with another's life, a good life, a strong life
Doubt I cannot have, my hand ensured my loss
My exodus to a cause I felt right, to make good
Ignoring my own, my loved ones
Ensured my misery, a darkness for life

So now I pay, a life taken from me
Scant reward for my blindness, my acts
But my children remain, small yet huge reward
They were never part of the deal, innocent
This part of life is bright, unsullied, for me the reason to continue
A bright light at the end of this dance

Now it’s all my loneliness... That’s my curse
As I wander my tragedy and roam
Aimlessly upon this earth.
Like a knife in my back. Or a thorn in my side
You broke me, fractured my truth
Took part of my soul, you won
