The Precipice of the Unknown
As I stand here upon the precipice of the unknown
I stare out into the darkness
Full of uncertainty and fear
Afraid of taking the next step
What if I fall?
What if I don’t?
What would that mean?
I stand here on the brink of the abyss
Not knowing what to do,
But understanding that the next step I take
Could change the course of my life.
But yet I just stand here
Wondering….
Every possible “what if” scenario flows through my mind
Each thought creating more fear and doubt
Making it impossible for my brain
To control the movement of my feet.
Here I stand on the edge of this phantasmic chasm
Looking out into the darkness of the unknown
Trembling from the fear that consumes me
Paralyzed by the terror that envelopes me
I take a deep breath,
And then another
Which allows me to take back command
of my body and mind
I close my eyes and then,
Ever so slowly my foot begins to move
As I take that first step into the unknown.
